Get rid of fleas: Give your pets a healthy living condition

Flea infestation makes life so miserable. It will be unanimously accepted by one and all. Once your home is infested with these tiny evils, it is so hard to get rid of fleas. Several people try out several ways in their search for the proper method of how to kill fleas. In most cases we end up with only partially driving them out. The worst affected of all are the pets.

The dog fleas and cat fleas are so commonly found in case we have some pet at home. Apparently it seems that the flea bites do not cause much harm to the pets. But they can prove to be extremely dangerous, taking into account the fact that fleas can be potential carriers of other parasites and dangerous diseases that can even prove fatal to the pets’ survival. Hence it becomes our duty to provide the pets with a flea free healthy condition. It is perhaps more important than looking after the regular diet of your favorite puppy.

Getting rid of fleas is never an easy proposition. Hence it always pays to stick to the old saying – ‘prevention is better than cure’. There are some basic jobs that need to be done on a routine basis to prevent fleas from infesting our homes and thus keeping them away from our pets. In order to perform a successful prevention program, one first needs to have a little knowledge about the flea life cycle. There are four stages in the flea life cycle – the egg, larva, cocoon, and the adult flea. Of these, the egg and larva form about 80% of the total flea population. Only 2% of them are the adults. So it is wise to try out measures that target the fleas at their egg or larva stage.

Roper sanitation in and around your home is very important in preventing the flea infestation. It will help in more than one ways. The fleas won’t find favorable conditions to breed. Again, the stray dogs and cats that mostly are affected with fleas also won’t be much encouraged to enter your compounds in the absence of unnecessary debris of dirt, etc. It is also very important to keep the body of your pet clean. Regular washing and cleaning with proper shampoos and natural flea control compounds will ensure that there isn’t any flea infestation. You also need to apply vacuum cleaning to each part of your interior at a regular interval to get the best result.

FLEAS Control Tip #1

Well the very first and major step to prevent fleas from growing and breeding is to vacuum clean your house regularly. This enables to keep the flea population low, as it helps to kill flea adults and flea eggs. However this method has not proved to be much effective in killing the flea larvae. You can seal the cracks, after vacuuming for killing the larvae and permanently eliminating these cracks, which are a favorite breeding area.

FLEAS Control Tip # 2

In case of severe flea infestation, other measures like steam cleaning might be required. According to research, a cat flea larva is sure to die if exposed to a temperature of 1030F for an hour. You can purchase some commercial devices which are available in the market and produce such lethal temperatures. However these devices comprise a loose shaft, for which it can only be used locally. As a result, fleas may escape by hiding in the carpet or somewhere else.

FLEAS Control Tip #3

Another effective method of preventing flea attacks is to use insecticidal on the organic matters outside your home. They enable to kill these pets by cracking their skin and absorbing the moisture and oil. Application of products containing citrus peel extracts, linalool and d-limonene on your pet’s bedding can help you to kill the fleas in all stages of breeding and growth. So take the preventive measures at the right time and save your home and pets from all the troubles and annoyance that are caused by these tiny and small creatures.
