Only that you have to know how the fleas grow up, their conditions of vulnerability, what are their favorite inhabiting places, and a few other such basic things. There are broadly two ways of tackling this persistent problem – the indoor treatment and the outdoor treatment.

Before trying your hand at getting rid of fleas, assess the intensity of the flea infestation. Upon it will depend the kind of treatments that will be needed to put to use. While performing the indoor treatment, the first thing that you need to do is vacuum the baseboards, furniture, carpets, and floors, etc. Vacuum before as well as after the application of the treatment. There are several kinds of spray medicines available that are commonly used for the indoor treatments. Many people opt for the method of fogger. But the fogger doesn’t help you in reaching beneath the large furniture. In that case, a spray is much more suitable.

The spray should contain insecticides like the Permethrin. Mix it with some Flea Growth Regulator (FGR) and spray it thoroughly to your indoor. Take extra care to ensure that the corners or the small spaces beneath the furniture are not ignored. Else all your effort may go in waste. Once the spray has been applied, wait for about 24 hours before performing the next vacuuming task. The FGR will stop the eggs from developing into larvae and the insecticide will kill the adult fleas. But the cocoons will not at al be affected by either the insecticide or the FGR. In due time, the cocoons will develop into the adults. Hence you will have to apply the spray once more after a few days. Thus, you can effectively stop the flea infestation.

There are also methods for controlling the fleas in outdoor conditions. It is applied mainly in order to get rid of the dog fleas or the cat fleas. Spray the insecticide to the probable areas where the pets spend a lot of their time. It may include the places like the runs, kennels, places beneath the deck, and so on. For better results, the spray can be applied once more a few weeks later.

FLEAS Control Tip #1

Well the very first and major step to prevent fleas from growing and breeding is to vacuum clean your house regularly. This enables to keep the flea population low, as it helps to kill flea adults and flea eggs. However this method has not proved to be much effective in killing the flea larvae. You can seal the cracks, after vacuuming for killing the larvae and permanently eliminating these cracks, which are a favorite breeding area.

FLEAS Control Tip # 2

In case of severe flea infestation, other measures like steam cleaning might be required. According to research, a cat flea larva is sure to die if exposed to a temperature of 1030F for an hour. You can purchase some commercial devices which are available in the market and produce such lethal temperatures. However these devices comprise a loose shaft, for which it can only be used locally. As a result, fleas may escape by hiding in the carpet or somewhere else.

Another effective method of preventing flea attacks is to use insecticidal on the organic matters outside your home. They enable to kill these pets by cracking their skin and absorbing the moisture and oil. Application of products containing citrus peel extracts, linalool and d-limonene on your pet’s bedding can help you to kill the fleas in all stages of breeding and growth. So take the preventive measures at the right time and save your home and pets from all the troubles and annoyance that are caused by these tiny and small creatures.
