Fleas are amongst the most unwelcome guests to us. But the problem with any unwelcome guest is that the guest ceases to realize how unwanted they are and keep visiting us. The story is also more or less similar with the fleas and any one who has had to tackle with this problem knows the state of despair that the fleas can lead one into. One of the most vulnerable targets of the fleas is the body of our favorite pet. Dog fleas form a real big problem to us. If not taken care of at an early stage, the flea bites can leave the dog with a real poor health condition. So it becomes so very important on our part to know about the effective methods of flea control in case of the dog fleas.
Many people think that the best symptom of the dog fleas is the scratching of the pet. In fact, it is a very bad method where you often wait for quite a long time before you finally realize that your favorite pet is under such a problem. By then the condition is often rather aggravated. That means greater pain for the pet; so for you in getting the pet rid of the fleas as well. Know that the pets scratch on flea bites only when there is some sort of allergic reaction due to the saliva of the flea. It is something quite similar to the bite of the mosquito. It is always better to routinely keep checking the pet to see if there is any such problem.
Glide your fingers in a direction opposite to that of the dog’s fur. Blow your breath to check if there is any small insect or some white deposits on the body of the pet. The white deposits are the flea eggs. There can also be deposition of the flea feces that appears as a black deposit. Take extra care to check the areas like the groin, along spine, along tail or the neck. A flea comb may be put to use in this case. However the flea comb proves inadequate in case the dog is quite furry.
In case you are confirmed about the presence of the dog fleas, it is always better to get to the vet. Before that you can try a few simple yet effective steps on your own as well. There are several natural flea control methods. The simplest of them all is to wash the dog with natural shampoo (containing Aloe Vera and Oatmeal) and water. The house too has to be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner. After that, the pet needs to be taken to the vet for further consultation. It is important to consult the vet as the fleas often cause anemic condition. Besides, they are also potential carriers of other more serious types of diseases and parasites. If not taken care of in due time, they may prove to be fatal for your favorite puppy. |
